Set in the beautiful Town Hall hotel in Bethnal Green, Nuno Mendes has done it again.  A well known resident of the London foodie scene, with his already acclaimed Viajante, Bacchus and Supper Club – The Loft, he has used his creativity to allow us to enjoy ‘formal’ food within an informal environment.

Nuno Mendes has certainly made exceptional food accessible for all of us, at £23 per head for 3 courses, there really is no excuse for not going to The Corner Room!    We started with the Jamon Iberico to share which took me straight back to San Sebastian.  This nostalgia was a great start to the a very memorable meal.  My starter – wood roasted salsify, scallop and wild herbs was a taste sensation – the crunch of the quinoa was very unexpected and added a lovely nutty overtone to the juicy scallops.   Dessert was mind blowing, who would have thought a simple deconstructed panna cotta could taste so good?!  Each spoonful was a lovely surprise of fudge, dried apple and fruit infused jelly, without knowing what you would get – it really was a delight to eat.

If you book for lunch with an intimate group of 6, make sure you ask for the private dining area, it’s like dining in a gentlemans club, complete with chesterfield chairs and dim lighting.

The skate with celery, apple and almonds was over seasoned for my liking but if you do like it salty, then this is the dish for you.
