At miss manchu, we have made it our personal mission to find the best high tea in London! It’s our little reward for each milestone we achieve, it’s quintessentially English and we deserve it!
Set in a crescent atrium on a sunny day, what was not to love? The service at The Connaught is exceptional – thoughtful and attentive, the staff were always in reach and never overbearing. You know they care when the head maitre d’ invites you to comment on your experience (and that he usually gets a good response).
When you sit down for high tea, you expect a set formula in place – choose tea/champagne, receive a 3-tier stand with with fancy pastries, patisseries, sandwiches and scones. What we loved about The Connaught was their little added touches – rather than the traditional cucumber and cream cheese sandwich, a little touch like ‘mint cream cheese’ made all the difference to making a very simple sandwich that little bit tastier. Their jam menu is amazing – 16 home-made Christine Ferber jams was a highlight, if you have never cared about jams, you will after you do this. Having the option to choose makes for an experience in itself.
Our favourite pastry was the macaroon mango, violets and blackcurrants – pillowy, chewy with a surprise centre – it took us to Paris and back with one mouthful.
Unlike other high tea’s, there is not one piece per person, they are share plates so everything had to be spilt in half except the sandwiches and scones. At £38.00 plus 12.5% service, it is not the best deal but you will be guaranteed a lovely experience.
