The food magician is at it again, Heston’s Dinner takes us back to medieval times set in the stunning Mandarin Oriental hotel in Knightsbridge.
love you: As recommended by our waiter, my friend and I ordered the Meat Fruit to share as our starter; to our delight, Heston certainly worked his magic in encasing chicken liver parfait into a mandarin like gelatin shell. The pate was nice, tasty and very smooth, what you would expect from a 5 star restaurant so there were no complaints from me.
The service was exceptional. I liked that our waiter explained the concept of Dinner and encouraged us to ask about the dishes on the menu as to it’s origins from medieval times.
leave you: I couldn’t resist the idea of a 72 hour Slow Cooked Short Rib of Angus, Smoked Anchovy and Onion Puree, Ox Tongue as I am a sucker for slow cooked food and I like the idea of a melt in your mouth moment. Beautifully presented, the 72 hour rib tasted like ½ hour rib. It was a little too tough for my liking, didn’t melt in my mouth and was too salty. I’m not sure if it was a bad day for the chef but unfortunately I got that dish. Furthermore, the anchovy and onion puree was nice but didn’t make up for the hero of the dish.
Poor signage – I didn’t even know we were entering the restaurant until we found the maître d’. We did get asked how our food was five times, a little bit much but then again, if the staff are passionate about service and the food then over the top service wins for me!

The meat fruit sounds magical the way you’ve described it.
